Tabivore Русский Add to Chrome

Fewer open tabs. Everything at hand.

Tabivore closes the tab you opened from a link with a back swipe, and keeps everything else on a calm shelf on your new tab page.

Two small things, done well

1 · Swipe back to close

Read the link, swipe back, you are where you were.

Open a link in a new tab, read it, then swipe back with two fingers on the trackpad: the drop pulls out of the screen edge, the tab closes and the page you came from is there. A tab you opened yourself is never closed by the swipe — it works only on a tab that was opened from a link.

  • Off on any site you choose
  • Swipe length and direction in the settings
  • A short hint when a tab cannot be closed this way

2 · The shelf

A place for what you want to come back to.

Stash the current tab with one click, a shortcut or the context menu, and keep it open or close it to free its memory. Stash a whole tab group and open it again as a real group. Save a quote from a page with a note of your own.

  • Search, pin, reorder, drag a link between groups
  • Every removal can be undone
  • Optional: tabs you have not touched for a while move to the shelf

3 · The new tab page

Your favorite sites, the shelf and your bookmarks. Arranged as you like.

Choose which blocks the page shows and in how many columns: keep only groups and stashed tabs, or put bookmarks back. Light and dark themes and five colour schemes: Nord, Tokyo Night, Catppuccin, Solarized, Gruvbox.

One shortcut, and the tab is on the shelf

A green check on the page confirms it. Or right-click the page, or click the toolbar icon.

The keys can be changed at chrome://extensions/shortcuts. One-off variants (stash and keep open, stash and close) can be given keys there too.

And the details

Tab groups

Stash a whole group with its name and colour and open it later as a real tab group.

Quotes and notes

Select text, right-click, and keep the quote with a note of your own.

Backup

Export and import as a JSON file, or turn on an automatic daily backup into a folder you choose.

Your layout

Hide blocks, choose one to three columns, set the order.

Auto-archive

Off by default. Tabs you have not opened for a time you choose go to the shelf.

Six languages

English, Russian, Spanish, French, Japanese and Simplified Chinese.

Private by design

Everything stays on your device. No account, no server, no ads. The extension makes no network requests of its own, and tabs from private windows are never stashed.

Read the privacy policy

Questions

Chrome says the extension is “not trusted by Enhanced Safe Browsing”. Is it unsafe?

That notice is shown to people with Enhanced protection turned on for developers who have not yet built up a history in the Chrome Web Store. Google says new developers typically need a few months to earn that status. It is not a finding about the code. Tabivore makes no network requests of its own, and what it keeps stays in your browser; the privacy policy lists every permission and what it is for.

Why does it need access to all sites?

A small script runs on web pages only to recognize the back swipe and to show the extension’s own hint and note field. It does not read the content of pages and sends nothing anywhere. It can be switched off for the sites you choose.

Does the swipe work with a mouse or on Windows?

The gesture was tuned on a MacBook trackpad. Other trackpads and mice with a horizontal wheel may need a different swipe length: it can be changed in the settings. Everything else works everywhere.

Which browsers?

Chromium-based browsers: Chrome, Edge, Brave. Firefox and Safari are not supported.

Can I move my data to another computer?

Export it as a JSON file in the settings and import it on the other one. There is no sync service by design.

How do I report a problem?

There is a “Report a problem…” button in the settings. It copies a short report with no addresses or notes to your clipboard and opens the feedback page.

Fewer tabs. Nothing lost.
